Technology Serving the Art
Parma, Italy – The Teatro Regio di Parma, one of Italy’s most renowned opera houses, has undergone a major technological upgrade to support modern productions while preserving its artistic heritage.
The project focused on improving reliability, flexibility and ease of use across audio, communication and lighting systems. The goal was to create an environment where technical teams and performers can operate with complete confidence.
The role of Audiosales
Audiosales played a key role in the design and advisory process of the project, helping the theater translate its operational needs and artistic ambitions into the right technical solutions. Their involvement went beyond simply proposing products; they actively collaborated with the team to ensure that every requirement was clearly understood and effectively addressed. Not only was their consultative approach instrumental in shaping the final setup, but their deep technical knowledge, combined with strong service and ongoing support, proved crucial in the successful implementation of both the Green-GO and ELC systems.
The overall system design was led by Claudio Mazzucchelli (CM S.r.l. – Multimedia Entertainment Engineering), while Elcom was responsible for the installation, bringing extensive experience in professional AV system integration.
Seamless Integration Across Systems
The upgrade supports efficient collaboration between audio, communication and lighting workflows within a unified setup.
The system benefits from the use of Dante, enabling audio signals to be easily and flexibly distributed throughout the entire infrastructure. This makes it straightforward to route audio wherever needed, without complex cabling or additional hardware. For example, a direct feed from the mixing console can be made available via Dante as program audio for users who require it, allowing them not only to follow communication but also to hear exactly what is happening on stage in real time.
At the same time, the system integrates:
- The Green-GO digital intercom platform
- Dante-enabled audio devices
- Art-Net based lighting control
This approach simplifies workflows and reduces complexity during both setup and live operation.
Green-GO: Communication Without Compromise
The Teatro Regio Foundation defined clear requirements for its new communication system. It needed to deliver:
- Clear and highly intelligible speech
- Low latency
- Stable performance in demanding RF environments
- Flexible communication groups
- Private communication options
- Compatibility with other RF systems
Green-GO was selected as the solution that met all these demands.
Within the Green-GO system, users can communicate across multiple groups and with individual users within a single intercom environment, providing a high level of flexibility. On top of that, priority channels ensure that critical communication can always take precedence, guaranteeing that important messages are delivered clearly and without delay.
Unlike traditional intercom systems, Green-GO operates as a fully distributed digital platform. Each device functions as an independent node, managing audio routing and communication logic locally.
This decentralized approach removes the need for a central matrix, eliminating single points of failure and allowing the system to scale easily. It also ensures consistent low latency and high reliability, regardless of system size or configuration.
Wireless performance in demanding environments
The wireless system is based on DECT technology, enabling full-duplex communication with strong resistance to RF interference.
Compared to the previous analog VHF system, this results in:
- More stable connections
- Better performance in high-density RF environments
- Consistent communication quality during live productions

ELC: Reliable Control
In a theatre environment, lighting control must be absolutely dependable, there is no room for interruptions during a live performance. At the Teatro Regio di Parma, a robust lighting control system was implemented based on ELC Lighting’s dmXLAN software, with Audiosales providing valuable local support throughout the process.
Key benefits
What sets ELC apart is that it is designed for technicians by technicians, resulting in a system that is both highly practical and intuitive in demanding real-world environments. The dmXLAN platform delivers stable and continuous DMX signal distribution, while built-in redundancy ensures that operations remain unaffected even in the event of a fault within the signal chain. In addition, RDM support allows for efficient monitoring, management, and configuration of connected devices.
With a total of seven dmXLAN nodes deployed, the system guarantees uninterrupted lighting control and provides the reliability essential for live productions. This future-proof setup allows the technical team to work with complete confidence, knowing that performance continuity is always safeguarded.
Built for Performance
The system significantly improved daily operations and delivers the reliability required for live performance environments.
“With Green-GO, we significantly improved the quality and flexibility of our production communications, resulting in a reliable system that is perfectly aligned with the Theater’s operational needs.”
